Are all Patients Adjusted the Same Way?

We often get the question, “Are all patients adjusted the same way?”. The answer is no! At North Broward Chiropractic & Wellness we understand every patient is different. Adjustment techniques can differ based on the patient’s principal complaint, exam, and x-ray findings. Each patient at our office receives individualized care along with a specific care plan detailing the treatment!

There are many ways to adjust a patient. Let’s discuss 3 of the various adjustment techniques we utilize in our office.

  1. Diversified Manual Adjustments to include The Thompson Drop-Table and Flexion Distraction techniques. The drop table technique utilizes a specially designed table constructed of padded platforms fitted with drop mechanisms. The chiropractor applies light pressure to a segment and allows the fitted platform to “drop” a fraction of an inch and gently shift the vertebrae back into alignment. The gentle dropping motion is comfortable for patients, resembling a light vibration. The Flexion Distraction technique utilizes a special table that distracts (decompresses) and flexes the spine in a gentle rhythmic motion. This technique is commonly used to treat disc injuries with back and leg pain. The adjustment is pain-free and comfortable, making it a great option for patients with recent injuries or extra sensitivity to other types of adjustments.

  1. The Activator Method-A small handheld device known as an “Activator” is commonly used by chiropractors to administer a gentle impulse to the extremities or the vertebral segments of the spine. This spring-loaded device is used to adjust the tone of the nervous system and can be used to treat a variety of conditions from headaches to lower back pain issues. Since the device is very gentle, it is a great choice to use when adjusting babies or small children.

  1. The Sigma Ultralign-For patients that are apprehensive about getting an adjustment, the Ultralign may be a more comfortable option as there is no twisting, turning, or “popping”. The Ultralign is a computer-assisted technique that provides on-screen analysis and computer-assisted adjustment. This technique allows our chiropractors to perform an adjustment in a seated position that feels like gentle tapping or light pressure. All ages love this highly accurate type of adjustment.

Whichever adjustment method your chiropractor uses, they all offer great benefits both to your spine and your overall health and wellness. If there is a certain method that you prefer or would like to try at your next visit, let your Doc know!
